Mommy Makeovers: Plastic Surgery after Pregnancy
After giving birth, most women desire two things: healthy babies and the return of their pre-pregnancy bodies. Swelling of the breasts and abdomen during pregnancy often result in sagging skin around those sensitive areas and may contribute to postpartum depression and feelings of low self-esteem concerning their body images.
It's my duty as a plastic surgeon to recommend plastic surgery only when the new Mom's body has sufficiently recovered from the birth process. So when a new mother comes to me to restore her physical appearance, my first step is to make sure her body is ready to be transformed by the safe, customary procedures plastic surgeons offer.
Two common procedures are breast lifting (mastopexy) and stomach tightening (abdominoplasty). Breast lifting is an outpatient procedure that lifts and firms the breasts. Abdominoplasty, also called a Tummy Tuck, tightens the stomach and reduces stretch marks and C-section scars. If the tummy requires less tightening, a mini-abdominoplasty may be all that's needed.
Liposuction (fat removal), and lightening skin that's developed blotchy, brown pigmentation during pregnancy also help return a woman's body to its natural, pre-birth beauty.
