Although it is not a large percentage, about twenty out of one hundred women who have undergone breast augmentation surgery will experience capsular contracture. This condition results when the tissue capsule surrounding your breast implant constricts the implant, causing it to feel distorted or hardened.

This is a normal bodily reaction to any foreign object. The tissue around the object becomes overly firm and tight and in some untreated cases can cause a fair amount of pain and discomfort. This condition usually presents itself within the first few months after surgery and is treatable. One of three methods is generally used:

• Open Capsulectomy
• Open Capsulotomy
• Closed Capsulotomy
