What Can be Done For My "Turkey Neck"?

Many people suffer from an ingloriously named condition called "turkey neck", also know as a wattle, or double chin. This condition is usually the result sudden loss of a large amount of weight, leaving loose baggy skin around the neck. For some reason, this particular area is especially resistant to reduction by exercise. The only permanent treatment available for this condition is a cosmetic surgical procedure called a neck lift.

Neck lift surgery consists of two procedures, cervicoplasty which addresses the excess skin around the neck, and platysmaplasty, which addresses the musculature underneath the skin. Depending on your severity of the condition, one or both may be employed to eliminate the "turkey neck." Liposuction may also be performed simultaneously to sculpt the neck area for a superior aesthetic effect.

The length of the procedure depends whether or not the neck lift is conducted in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Many times, it is performed at the same time as a browplasty or facelift. The neck lift procedure by itself takes about two to three hours.

Getting a neck lift is one of the most effective cosmetic procedures to enhance your overall appearance. Many patients find that others approve of their new look, attributing it to weight loss, and never suspecting plastic surgery.

If you are looking to get rid of one of your extra chins in the San Francisco area, please contact Dr. Randall B. Weil today to schedule an initial consultation.
