Time and Sagging Breasts

Sagging breasts are a natural and inevitable fact of life that happens to almost every woman at some point in her lifetime.

Cosmetic surgeons define sagging (ptotic) or drooping as when the nipple falls below the crease of your breast. To help determine whether you have a ptotic breast, examine them from the front and side angles. Look at which direction your nipples are pointing and see if they droop below the fold.

Breasts can start to droop at any age, since they are made up of fat, ligaments and connective tissue. When gravity tugs at your breasts, those ligaments can stretch and cause a sagging appearance. Your diet, genes and skin's elasticity are all factors that determine the amount of drooping you may experience.

One of the most common reasons that breasts sag is after a woman has lost weight. Once some of the fat in your breasts disappears, the skin and ligaments inside do not retract.

Another cause is breast involution - a process where the milk-making system inside your breast shrinks because it is no longer needed. This can happen after pregnancy if you don't breastfeed or during menopause. When the tissues inside your breast shrink and your skin does not, you breasts can look deflated.

Cosmetic procedures, such as a breast lift or breast implant surgery can restore your youthful looking breasts and with them - your self-confidence.

When Can I Go Back to Work After my Breast Implant Procedure?

After your implant surgery, you should expect to be off work for five to seven days. After a week has passed, you can begin to resume your daily activities.

You need to heal fully before you subject your new breasts to any physical activity. This includes jogging, horseback riding, jumping rope, etc. If physical activity is part of your profession, Dr. Weil needs to give you the OK first.

No matter when you resume physical activities, be sure to wear a sports bra. The jarring up and down movement without adequate support can cause permanent damage and sagging of your new breasts.

Swimming, water skiing, snow skiing and snowboarding are even riskier. Swimming involves the pectoral muscle, which can result in implant displacement. Skiing and snowboarding present the possibility of falling; falling can rupture a new implant that is not fully healed.

Regardless of what activity you wish to pursue, you should first discuss it with your doctor, so you don't ruin your new implants.

What Can be Done For My "Turkey Neck"?

Many people suffer from an ingloriously named condition called "turkey neck", also know as a wattle, or double chin. This condition is usually the result sudden loss of a large amount of weight, leaving loose baggy skin around the neck. For some reason, this particular area is especially resistant to reduction by exercise. The only permanent treatment available for this condition is a cosmetic surgical procedure called a neck lift.

Neck lift surgery consists of two procedures, cervicoplasty which addresses the excess skin around the neck, and platysmaplasty, which addresses the musculature underneath the skin. Depending on your severity of the condition, one or both may be employed to eliminate the "turkey neck." Liposuction may also be performed simultaneously to sculpt the neck area for a superior aesthetic effect.

The length of the procedure depends whether or not the neck lift is conducted in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Many times, it is performed at the same time as a browplasty or facelift. The neck lift procedure by itself takes about two to three hours.

Getting a neck lift is one of the most effective cosmetic procedures to enhance your overall appearance. Many patients find that others approve of their new look, attributing it to weight loss, and never suspecting plastic surgery.

If you are looking to get rid of one of your extra chins in the San Francisco area, please contact Dr. Randall B. Weil today to schedule an initial consultation.

Reclaim Your Pre-Pregnancy Figure With Breast Augmentation

It is a well-known fact that pregnancy considerably alters a woman's body. Unwanted changes can generate feelings of embarrassment or self-consciousness. Though most mothers treasure their kids, many of them long to regain their pre-pregnancy shape.

Different cosmetic procedures can help you achieve this desire. Body reshaping techniques can re-establish your pride, your confidence, and your overall happiness.

Some common procedures that you can opt for include:

Breast Augmentation: Silicone gel-filled or saline implants are surgically inserted under your gland or chest muscle to make your breasts larger. You pick the size and shape.

  • Breast Reduction: Breasts are surgically altered to eliminate excess tissue and reduce pain or insecurities associated with large breasts.
  • Breast Lift: Breasts are surgically uplifted to restore shape and projection after they begin to droop.
  • Nipple Cosmetic Surgery: Surgery is performed to fix inverted, large or bulky nipples. Problems, like lack of sensitivity, are not addressed.

These procedures can help you regain your pre-pregnancy figure, and revitalize your self-esteem. Studies show that people with a positive self-image enjoy more successful relationships both at work and in their personal lives.
