Facial Augmentation & Juvederm
Serving San Francisco, San Jose, & Walnut Creek, California
There are many alternatives to full fledged cosmetic surgery if you want to look younger. One popular option for smoothing wrinkles and taking years off your face is with the use of injectable fillers like Juvederm.
Juvederm belongs to a class of fillers whose primary ingredient is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring complex carbohydrate. Other fillers in the same class include Restylane and Prelane.
When injected, Juvederm attracts water molecules and bonds with them, increasing the initial volume by over a thousand times. This added volume smoothes the wrinkles and folds where applied.
Indications
Injectable fillers are a great way to smooth away facial wrinkles and give yourself a more youthful appearance without undergoing a facelift or mini-facelift. Juvederm is great when used for the following:
- Naso-labial wrinkles, the area around your nose and mouth
- Fuller lips
- Cheek augmentation
- Chin augmentation
- Fill in hollow areas underneath scar tissue
Procedure
Juvederm is injected in the dermal layer where deep wrinkles occur. The amount of filler used depends on the severity of the wrinkle to be corrected.
Unlike collagen injections, hyaluronic acid fillers are hypo-allergenic and do not require skin testing. You can receive the Juvederm injections right after your consultation if you like.
The entire process is performed on an outpatient basis and takes under an hour to complete. You can resume all your normal activities as soon as you leave the office.
Juvederm is somewhat thinner than other hyaluronic acid based fillers, making it easier to inject and less painful for the patient.
Juvederm Results
You should immediately enjoy the results of the procedure the same day. The results last up to six months. The body eventually absorbs Juvederm, so a reapplication of the injectable filler is necessary to keep your face looking fresh and young.
Side affects are minimal and may include:
- Minor bruising
- Minor swelling
- Redness
- Mild pain
In most cases these side effects fade within a day or two. Pain can be controlled with over the counter medication.
When evaluating any cosmetic treatment, it is important to find a qualified cosmetic surgeon who is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
