1) What is the difference between tumescent and UAL liposuction techniques?
With the ultrasonic-assisted liposuction, your cosmetic surgeon uses sound waves delivered in a cannula (long, thin rod) to break up and liquefy fat before it is removed via suction. With the tumescent technique, the targeted fat cells are filled with tumescent fluid, and then the fat is suctioned through a cannula. The tumescent technique may reduce blood loss and post-operative discomfort, although there are advantages to each. Often, both types are used together for optimal results.

2) Will the removed fat eventually return after liposuction?
Liposuction effectively reduces the number of fat cells in the body - and although you can never regain fat cells, your body's current cells will increase in size if you don't balance out extra calories with exercise. To maintain the results of your liposuction procedure, eat a balanced diet, and integrate cardio, stretching and muscle-building exercises into your regular routine if you haven't already.

3) Can I have liposuction performed in more than one area?
Absolutely! In fact, many of our patients will save time and costs by having liposuction performed on additional treatment areas in the same procedure. Your fees will be based on the areas treated, the length, and difficulty of the procedure.

4) What are the risks of liposuction surgery?
Because liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure, there are a few risks patients should be aware of, as well as ways to minimize risk. With liposuction, the following complications are rare but possible: anesthesia reaction, abnormal contour, bleeding, dimpling or puckering of the skin, blood clot, hematoma, nerve damage, scarring, and swelling. Talk to your doctor about other risks and side effects.

5) What happens during the recovery period?
After liposuction, swelling and bruising will be evident for some time. You may experience numbness in the treatment area for a few weeks as well. Depending on the area treated, the pain level will vary and is controllable with medication. Bandages will be changed within a few days, and sutures can be removed in about a week. Depending on the type of work you do, you may be able to return in 1 – 3 weeks. The doctor will restrict heavier activities for up to a month to allow the body to heal properly. Final results may be seen up to six months after liposuction.
