To the consternation of many of us, the neck often starts to age before the face. Jowls form at the jawline, neck bands start hanging at the throat, and a turkey wattle neck appears. It can be caused by weight loss, or by simple aging, or even hereditary factors.
Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Weil offers a Neck Lift “mini” procedure to rejuvenate the neck and lower face. It removes excess, sagging skin, tightens weak muscles, and eliminates unwanted fat deposits. This gives you a clean, youthful jawline and brightens up the entire face.
Because genetic factors may be involved, people of all ages come for a neck lift. There are three parts to the procedure:
- Cervicoplasty – removal of the excess skin
- Platysmaplasty – tightening of the muscle
- Liposuction – suctioning out the fatty tissue
The procedure
It takes two to three hours and can be combined with a facelift or forehead lift. Each facial augmentation procedure is planned for you alone, customized for your exact needs and goals. It can be done with general anesthesia or with local anesthetic and intravenous sedation. Dr. Weil would discuss this with you ahead of time.
Incisions are beneath the chin and/or behind the ears, depend on exactly what you are having done. The resulting scars will be fairly well hidden.
Recovery
Dr. Weil will give you clear, printed instructions for self-care afterwards, and it’s very important that you follow them exactly. You can fill your prescription(s) ahead of time and set up a comfortable recovery space at home.
Set up all the necessary arrangements, like walking the dog or bringing in the mail, ahead of time. You should wear loose clothing that doesn’t have to be pulled over your head. Stock up on easy-to-prepare but nutritious foods – you want your body in the best of health for a speedy recovery. Have a phone close to wear you’ll be resting, and lots of pillows to keep your head in a comfortable position.
For a few days you may wear a compression bandage. You can use icepacks to help with swelling. Bruising will gradually subside by itself. You can return to normal activities after 10-14 days, but avoid any vigorous activity for a month or so.
