Ear surgery (otoplasty) is most often performed to reposition prominent or protruding ears closer to the head. The otoplasty procedure is often done for children with protruding ears, but may also be performed on adults.
Otoplasty is usually performed on an outpatient basis and recovery is within a few hours. Complications are usually infrequent. Patients can return to work or normal activity in 5-7 days, but caution should be exercised for about 4 weeks to avoid bending the ears.
