Rhinoplasty is one of the top five cosmetic surgery procedures for 2006, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. It can be an entirely cosmetic procedure, or can also be done to improve breathing, such as in correcting a deviated septum. San Francisco Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Randall Weil has excellent experience in rhinoplasty for both reasons, usually doing both types of work in the same procedure.
Nose surgery can be done as a closed procedure or an open procedure. This refers to how incisions are made. In a closed procedure, the incision is made inside the nose and therefore no scar will be visible afterwards. In an open procedure, the incision is made in the columella, which is the tissue separating the nostrils (that is, it’s the front part of the septum). A small scar will be visible afterwards, but not at all obvious.
Your rhinoplasty would be planned in detail with your cosmetic surgeon. Each nose surgery is entirely customized according to what the specific problems and goals are.
Sometimes a second nose surgery must be done, after the first one was inadequate. Dr. Randall Weil has done this for patients who have come from other cosmetic surgery offices. In some cases, a problem has developed after the first surgery, and in others, the original problem still exists.
Secondary rhinoplasty can be minor or quite difficult, requiring detailed expertise on the part of the surgeon. Bone and/or cartilage may be used from another part of the body and the procedure can be more lengthy. If you are dissatisfied with a previous rhinoplasty and would like to have a complimentary consultation about a secondary rhinoplasty surgery, please contact our San Francisco Cosmetic Surgery Office.
Results of a nasal surgery can be very dramatic. The nose is easily visible from every angle, and along with the chin is very definitive in the profile. In these days of highly sophisticated cosmetic surgery, no-one needs to live with embarrassment about their nasal shape, so please call or email our cosmetic surgeon to arrange for your free nasal surgery consultation.
