San Francisco Chemical Peels
Helping Patients Feel Younger & More Vibrant
If your skin isn’t looking as healthy, glowing, youthful, and smooth as you would like – or if you simply have a special occasion for which you want to pull out all the stops – our San Francisco plastic surgeon may have just the thing for you. A chemical peel, generally used on the face, neck and hands, is a chemical solution which exfoliates, firms, and tightens the skin it targets. The final results are smooth, glowing skin!
Types of Chemical Peels
There are three main types of chemical peels you can get, with different levels of intensity depending on your desired results:
- Superficial: Also referred to as a “lunchtime peel” because it fits nicely into a lunch break, this peel uses a very mild acid, such as alpha-hydroxy, to exfoliate the outermost layer of skin and bring smoothness and even skin tone to roughened or discolored skin.
- Medium: More intensive than the superficial peel, the medium peel uses trichloroacetic or glycolic acid to penetrate the outer skin layers and smooth out damaged skin. This can successfully minimize the appearance of wrinkles, freckles, age spots, skin roughness, or discoloration, as well as treat some forms of precancerous skin growths.
- Deep: This peel penetrates into the skin very deeply, usually using trichloroacetic acid or phenol, to clear out damaged skin cells. This will smooth out more pronounced lines and wrinkles as well as clear age spots, freckles, and some scars. Most patients are only able to get this type of peel once.
